Some stones I did for ma girls. Rumour has it that I may have another gravestone commission on the way...!
A 24 hour drawing organized by some guys on 3rd year Illustration and Graphics, which I stumbled upon and decided to take part in (see the spaceship hovering in the top right corner...)

The whole project was in aid of the Children in Need appeal, and aimed to inspire kids to chase they're dreams. It was very full on and good fun doing it-

Check out Dan's blog which has the whole thing from start to finnish- http://danwoodger.blogspot.com/, and the timelapse video too http://vimeo.com/17087984

It also uses the roof of the multi-storey car park as a communal garden, has water catchers on the roof, and an external framework which can have bits bolted on at the residents will (i.e. kitchen extensions, water tanks, a bay window...)

Final project- to design a building, making the most of a highly unattractive site, which would be used by artists/ creative types. Therefore... a 'creative community'. It had to contain at least 6 studio spaces, disabled access, and a communal area on the ground floor.

I learnt that President Mobutu strangely enough became obsessed with farming towards the end of his life, and became withdrawn and indifferent to politics despite ruling the country for over 30 years.

Therefore to symbolize this, I decided to convert a Maseratti sports car into a Combine Harvester- thus merging his love for Italian sports cars with farming. This aptly represented his ludicrous, almost infantile world he built for himself. I can just see him in his leopard skin hat, driving around in this- cutting the wrong crops at the wrong time in his over-enthusiasm... and no one dared to put him right!

A character study of the infamous former president of the Congo, President Mobutu. Showing his love for champagne, Louis Vuitton, chartered concordes and his appauling fahsion sense, amongst other things. Rest of the project followed on from this, greatly helped by a book on him- "In the footsteps of Mr Kurtz"

HOLIDAY WORK. I was commissioned to do a gravestone over easter, for my great aunt. More photos will follow when its taken to the family graveyard in scotland

It was pretty hard, and quite stressful to start with. It also took a hell of a lot of concentration, like never before for me. no radio. no distractions. just your brain and 2 hands. oh and obviously no mistakes... otherwise you ruin the whole thing.

here's how i used pencil indicator marks to push and pull at the lines, to perfect the curves

painting it. nearly done... (music was allowed now, radio 1 and a bit of HEART)

a little atmosphere collage i did for our week long student cafe project

2nd design project- design a public exhibition space for the level, Brighton. Just think of it as a  'new' brighton pavillion. everyone says it looks like a lobster, kind of fitting with Brighton being a seaside town i guess.
I was actually going for more of a dinosaur skeleton.

Its funny how I don't like animals much in real life but love them in architecture

The model.

some marker pen 'atmosphere' drawings I did for our first proper design project, whose site was a wooded hill.
I was big into Carlo Mollino's work at the time, an architect/ designer who seemed to be brilliant at everything he touched, whether it be designing furniture, stage sets, stunt flying, skiing, and even erotic photography

Making a wind device.

For our first mini design project we had a morning to make a wind measuring device before going to site, which was on the Brighton seafront. I had in mind a windmill all along, and had to make a rotating base for it to point into the wind. It ended up looking a bit like an aeroplane...

I had loads of fun with it, until it sadly broke.

One of the first things we did- find a couple of objects, put them together in some way, and draw them at 1:1 scale- doing a side elevation, front elevation and plan view. Mine was a petrol pump i bought at a car boot sale and a fishing reel, tied to it using its own thread.

I then made cards from them;

Start of Brighton- 1st year architecture

End of Falmouth foundation.

goodbye boat, beaches, (sun), fun and lots more...
goodbye flatmates
